Career Pathways for Professionals of the 21st Century

Abstract: This talk will present the main findings of an inquiry into the process of career advancement for professionals in the 21st century. Our contemporary world, characterized as fast, compressed and uncertain, poses complex, often unexpected, challenges for individual work “journeys“.
Open-minded, reflective and engaged professionals equipped with the appropriate knowledge, values and skills will be able to cope with the challenges of these times of change. As a result of this exploration, the proposal that I would like to make here is that successful career paradigms confront and challenge the well-established view that work journeys are predictable and linear, governed by societal expectations and life stages. Concrete aspects in this talk will draw on the experience of working in the English Language Education field.
